Engineering Insights

Our ‘Engineering Insights’ lecture series focuses on topics from the engineering sciences and related disciplines.

Academics from Wismar University of Applied Sciences, as well as invited guests from academia and industry, present insights into current technical developments and innovative research findings.

Engineering Insights thus provides a forum for regular cross-departmental and cross-faculty exchange – not only for students and university staff involved in teaching and research, but for anyone with an interest in the subject.

The event is open to the public and is aimed at anyone with an interest in the subject.

Artificial intelligence (AI) is on everyone’s mind. Nevertheless, in many businesses in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, orders, sample lists and invoices still arrive on paper or as Excel spreadsheets and are typed up by hand. Simon Glowik, founder and managing director of NordFlux UG in Wismar, uses examples from laboratories, manufacturing and administration to show where process automation and AI are actually being used in SMEs today – and where the effort involved is not worth it. The audience is invited to participate: via a live poll, the students first assess for themselves where businesses are already using AI and where it makes sense, and compare this with their own experience of AI during their studies. This is followed by a comparison with real-world practice.
Finally, the focus is on entry-level opportunities for students of engineering and business informatics, whether as an internship or a working student position in an office right by the Alter Holzhafen with a view of the water.

Simon Glowik spent four years automating business processes at Dräger in Lübeck, whilst studying Business Informatics (B.Sc.) alongside his work, and now, through NordFlux UG, supports companies with automation and AI agents.
