Thanks to the participation of companies, organizations, and many university staff and students, the visiting high school students were once again offered countless hands-on activities, experiments, and technical demonstrations on the campus of Wismar University of Applied Sciences.

For the first time in several years, amateur radio operators from the Hansestadt Wismar Amateur Radio Club (DL0HWI) were also back in attendance. Throughout the morning, club members also assisted at Prof. Dr Olaf Hagendorf’s soldering station to handle the high turnout and give many children and teenagers the opportunity to solder their own “Robby.”

Professors, staff, and students were also delighted by the high level of interest and the packed lecture halls, as they introduced the young audience to the diversity of technical careers through short presentations on engineering and the natural sciences.

Guests were able to experience the breadth of possibilities hidden within a single topic, particularly in the field of robotics. Whether “flying robots” in the form of drones, robotic lawn mowers, robot dogs, or student-built robots – to name just a few – there were mechatronic systems to discover in many places, performing a wide variety of tasks.

The VDI, which organizes the “Day of Technology” annually with the aim of encouraging the next generation to pursue technical careers, can thus look back on a successful day.
