At the start of the week, Professor Ilka Raupach, Artistic Design in Interior Architecture, and Tobias Gehrke, Head of the Model-Making Workshop at the Faculty of Architecture and Design, led 16 first-semester interior architecture students on a work assignment in the university garden of our university of Applied Science. As part of the ‘Artistic Basics’ module, the focus was on maintaining, topiary-pruning and weaving the surrounding willow hedge – which borders the garden on the car park side – as well as the willow dome that had been constructed during the previous seminar.
The result is a real feast for the eyes.
At the same time, a team from a renowned landscape design company began work on the pond’s refurbishment. Thanks to the remarkable enthusiasm of everyone involved, it was transformed within just three days into a biotope featuring a watercourse and even a bridge. This means that the feature – and the entire garden – can now also be viewed from a vantage point above the water’s surface.
“On the journey from a horticultural display to a paradise garden, we can only hope that everything grows well,” said Prof. Dr Christian Stollberg, who teaches in the Department of Mechanical Engineering/Process and Environmental Engineering at our UAS. In addition to all those already mentioned, he extends his heartfelt thanks to the active supporters from the Insel Poel local council, the neighbouring company, Norddeutsche Pflanzenzucht Hans-Georg Lembke KG, and all the staff in Malchow.
