Last Friday, the First North German Property Management Day took place on the campus of Wismar University of Applied Sciences.

The symposium was organised by the Institute for Property Management (IFIM) at Wismar University of Applied Sciences, which brings together experts from the three fields of design, economics and civil engineering.

The event centred on revitalisation, a topic that is becoming increasingly important for the property sector in light of current challenges. “The ‘Bauwende’ makes it clear that the focus cannot be solely on new construction projects. The responsible management of the existing building stock, the conservation of resources, the reduction of land consumption and the lowering of CO₂ emissions are becoming central tasks of sustainable property management,” said Prof. Dr.-Ing. Marcus Hackel during his presentation on ‘Developments and Future Requirements in Property Management’. Further perspectives were provided from the cooperative housing sector and the municipal housing industry. A subsequent audience discussion provided an opportunity to exchange views on the current challenges and potential of revitalisation.

The afternoon focused on case studies relating to revitalisation. Among other things, master’s theses on the subject were presented, as well as the impromptu ‘Repair Café’, where concepts were put forward and discussed collectively.

The 2026 North German Property Management Day thus made it clear that regeneration is not merely a structural task, but an interdisciplinary issue for the future that brings together expertise from planning, design, economics and civil engineering – and thus reflects precisely the approach for which the IFIM at Wismar University of Applied Sciences stands.
