After completing his training as a master beekeeper, Mr Zilewitsch went on to qualify as an environmental engineer and had been an integral part of the Department of Mechanical Engineering/Process and Environmental Engineering team since the launch of the Process and Environmental Engineering degree programme in 1993. During his more than 30 years at our University of Applied Science, he consistently provided helpful and instructive support to countless process engineering students as they undertook work placements and wrote their final theses; he collaborated on numerous research projects and was actively involved in UAS committees.
He remained on friendly terms with many colleagues and graduates even after they had left the UAS, sharing with them his hobbies, such as badminton, and his enthusiasm for unusual bicycles. His love of the blues, which was his constant companion and whose sounds still echo through our laboratories, will also remain unforgettable.
With his bee colonies in the show garden on the Poeler Campus, he incorporated his passion for beekeeping into his teaching and inspired many people to take up this hobby.
We shall greatly miss his knowledge and dedication, his helpfulness and reliability, and his collegial, ever-loyal and friendly manner. We shall always cherish a special memory of Christoph Zilewitsch in our thoughts and recollections.
