In their presentations, the researchers from Wismar University of Applied Sciences, together with their project partner Prof. Dr Peter Junglas, showcased both their latest work in the field of discrete-event simulation and research findings on the integration of digital twins, Industry 4.0 technologies and plant automation.

The first presentation by Prof. Dr Peter Junglas, Prof. Dr-Ing Thorsten Pawletta and Dr David Jammer, entitled “The Release Queue – a Generic Model for Queues with Complex Queuing Policies”, introduced a new generic model for queues with complex service and selection strategies. The concept was implemented in practice using the NSA-DEVS simulator developed by the CEA research group and examined using application examples.

The second paper, by Jan Bartelt, Dr David Jammer, Prof. Dr.-Ing. Thorsten Pawletta and Prof. Dr.-Ing. Sven Pawletta, was entitled “Demonstrator for Digital Twin Creation Using the Asset Administration Shell and BaSyx Middleware”. The focus was on the development of a demonstrator for the creation and use of digital twins for Industry 4.0 applications based on the Asset Administration Shell (AAS) and BaSyx middleware. The demonstrator developed also forms a key component of the “GeoTwinFrame” research project, which was launched in February 2026.

Both papers were also published in Elsevier’s Procedia Computer Science:

EUROSIM is the Federation of European Simulation Societies. The EUROSIM Congress takes place every three years and is organised by one of the EUROSIM member societies on each occasion. This year – hosted by Simulation Team Italy – the theme was ‘M&S & AI: Opportunities and Challenges for the Present and Future’. The event brings together academics and experts from research and industry to discuss current developments and applications in the field of Modelling & Simulation (M&S).
