At the 16th meeting of the XIII Senate, Prof. Rachow, who had taught at the department of Marine Engineering, Plant Engineering and Logistics at the Faculty of Engineering in the subject area of marine machinery systems until 2025, was appointed Honorary Senator. He was also involved in this field at the Rostock-Warnemünde site as head of department for several terms of office.
For a total of 22 years, Prof. Rachow actively shaped our UAS policy as a member of the Senate without interruption – from the Vth to the XIIth Senate inclusive. He was a member of all selection committees and the participation committee. During his last 15 years as Deputy Chairman, he attended 150 meetings, 220 in total.
In the laudatory speech given by Prof. Dr Rom Raabe, as well as in the comments made by several Senate members, particular tribute was paid to his tireless commitment, his high level of expertise, his impressive ‘elephant's memory’ and, above all, his calm and balanced, always friendly manner and his solution-oriented approach, with which he steered many a heated discussion into smooth sea.
